On 17 June, 2020, the workshop on Drought and salinity in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta in 2020 took place at the hall of Research Institute for Climate change (DRAGON-MEKONG Institute). This event strengthened the academic cooperation between DRAGON-MEKONG Institute and Vietnam River Network. The workshop was attended by about 50 participants from local agencies, companies and academic institutions in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta.

The year 2020 has witnessed one of the worst ever drought and salinity levels ever in the delta, which is home to 12 provinces and a city. The drought has beenputting great pressure on Vietnam’s agriculture and aquaculture hub, the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. The workshop is, therefore, organized to commit natural change regarding drought and saltwater intrusion and come up with solutions.
Assoc. Prof.Dr. Le Anh Tuan, Vice Director of DRAGON-MEKONG Institute presented flood and drought characteristics analysis in the last 20 years.
Other presentations include Participatory Land Use Management for Climate Adaptation (PALUMCA), Water supply solutions in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta and policy addressing drought and salinity.
