On 1st of July, 2022 the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam and the Research Institute for Climate Change, Can Tho University signed the Contribution Agreement for the project “Community based canals restoration and solid waste management for improved flood resilience in An Khanh ward, Can Tho City, Vietnam”. Its objective is to improve the flood resilience of at-risk residences in the vicinity of area 3, An Khanh ward, Can Tho City, Vietnam. The project implementation period is from July 2022 to February 2023 with the main activity to establish self-governing community groups and community-based drainage management mechanism, contributing to minimizing negative impacts on the environment, health, livelihoods. In addition, activities to assess drainage capacity, develop a plan to improve the environment of drainage canals and collect and manage waste in canal basins are also carried out. It is estimated that there are about 700 people in the community will directly benefit and 60 households near canals in the community will benefit indirectly from the project's results. Besides, it will assist Can Tho city overcome its current drainage and solid waste management challenges and increase the efficiency of local flood management.
