Installing flood-adapted public trash cans in the Area 3, An Khanh ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho City.
On December 7, 2022 the Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON- Mekong Institute) of Can Tho University and the municipal group in Area 3 collaborated to surveypotential locations for installing climate-friendly trash cans in the Area 3, An Khanh ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho City. The activity was carried out within the framework of the “Community-based canal restoration and solid waste management for improved flood resilience in An Khanh ward, Can Tho City, Vietnam (CFLI - Can Tho)" project, which was funded by the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI program) and the implemented with support from Institute for Environmental and Social Transformation (ISET).
On November 14, 2022, the project teaminstalled 2 pilot garbage cans in the Area 3. After watching the operation and reaching an agreement with the community group representative. They processed and installed trash cans totaling 20 barrels in the area.This practice attempts to mitigate domestic waste that brought on by flooding. Also, it makes it easier for the community to manage waste production and disposal, particularly the continued dumping of trash into canals as before.
