On July 2nd 2013, the Research Institute for Climate Change – Can Tho University (DRAGON Institute) and Hau Giang Environmental Protection Agency started a project entitled “Climate Adaptation: Water harvesting in the Mekong Delta – A Case Study of Hau Giang Province” at Vi Thanh City, Hau Giang Province.
The project will be implemented by Hanns Seidel Foundation (Germany) and DRAGON Institute. The general objective is to recommend acceptable solutions in fresh water supply to poor communities in rural areas of Hau Giang province for adaptation to climate change.
Through the workshop, the most participants identified that all measurements of water collection and treatments are suitable with local conditions and recommended that measurement of rain water collection with low cost should be applied. Simultaneously, applying measurements in water collection and treatment should be implemented to reach clean and hygienic water in the official indicators in order to meet the requirements of new rural areas.
