On August 12, 2022, the project team “Community based canals restoration and solid waste management for improved flood resilience in An Khanh ward, Can Tho City, Vietnam” from Research Institute for Climate Change, Can Tho University organize the first meeting with the Community group. The participants joins the meeting including project members, representative from People's Committee of An Khanh Ward and 15 people living in Area 3, An Khanh ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city.

The purpose of holding this community gathering is to outline the rationale, importance, and role of creating a community group. In doing so, the meeting also seeks to agree main points of the operating conventions as well as their activities to be implemented in the near future.

Self-managed community groups are critical to efforts to conserve the environment and canals. Street cleaning, scavenging, weeding, and flow clearing are a few tasks that will assist the community as a whole. This community organization also contribute significantly to propaganda campaigns aimed at increasing public knowledge of environmental protection and waste management.

The meeting received a high consensus and agreement from the people of Area 3 with such contents as the establishment of a community group consisting of 15 members, the activities of the community group being carried out periodically, in agreement with the contents of the operating conventions
