Climate change and natural disasters have had a substantial impact on the Mekong Delta's socioeconomic growth, causing significant damage to the infrastructure, which serves as the foundation for regional development. The workshop "Strengthening capacity climate resilience for infrastructure in the Mekong Delta" was co-organized by the project "Enhancing Climate Services for Infrastructure Investments (CSI)" and the program "Mekong Delta Climate Resilience Programme" (MCRP) as part of the Vietnamese and German governments' collaboration in implementing climate change resilience activities. The workshop was organized on February 14-15, 2023, to examine best practices and future visions of infrastructure in the Mekong Delta in particular, and in Vietnam in general, in the context of climate change.

Assoc. Prof. Van Pham Dang Tri, Director, Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON-Mekong Institute), Can Tho University participated and representatives of the research team gave a presentation on "Methods to enhance resilience - Sponge City". The challenges and potential for urban water resource management, as well as the chances for sponge city growth in the Mekong Delta, were discussed. One of the potential options considered at the workshop was community-based flood adaptation and resilience.
