On 14th June, 2021, a seminar “Social vulnerability to climate change-modified water hazards in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta Coastal Zone” was organized at the Hall of the Research Institute for Climate Change and presented by Phan Ky Trung, a staff of College of Environmental and Natural Resources, Can Tho University.
The study was done to identify the household social vulnerability index (SVI) to water hazards and the spatial relationship of the SVI to ecological and socio-economic factors in the VMD coastal zone.
Specific objectives include:
- Identifying current water hazards and exposure in the study area;
- Calculating the household social vulnerability index and mapping the household vulnerability spatial distribution to water hazards; and,
Analyzing linkages between household vulnerability and surrounding socio-ecological elements consisting of land use practices and water infrastructures.
