On November 3, 2022, the Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON-Mekong Institute), Can Tho University (CTU) in collaboration with the The Can Tho Union of Friendship Organizations organized a workshop on "Sustainable urban development adapting to climate change". The workshop was conducted under the sponsorship of the Friedrich Naumann Institute Vietnam (FNF) with the goal of sharing as well as finding opportunities to contribute to the development of sustainable urban areas in Can Tho city in the context of change. climate.

The seminar program has 2 main working sessions the content of Session 1 is "Sharing experiences of sustainable urban development" and Session 2 is "Sustainable urban development in Can Tho city.” At the opening working session, experts discussed their experiences with urban development, including MSc. Bui Hoang Minh, Director of the Center for Monitoring, Supervision, and Administration of Smart Cities in Thua Thien Hue Province, who spoke on the topic of "Smart urban services in Thua Thien Hue province with climate change issues. Circular economy in smart cities was discussed by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan of the Research Institute for Circular Economy Development, and the project "Green infrastructure in Quy Nhon city" was discussed by Associate Professor Dr. Le Anh Tuan and co-author Dr. Lam Van Thinh of the College of Environment and Natural Resources at CTU.
The presenters provided the workshop with solutions in the second working session for Can Tho city development in the context of climate change adaptation. The topic of "Sustainable socio-economic development of Can Tho city on the basis of science, technology, and innovation" was discussed by Dr. Ngo Anh Tin, Director of the Can Tho Department of Science and Technology. Dr. Truong Minh Thai, a lecturer at the CTU School of Information and Communication Technology, spoke on "Digital transformation associated with agriculture and aquaculture production in the Mekong Delta," and MSc. Nguyen Kim Hoang, an expert from the German Development Cooperation Agency (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit - GIZ), shared information on "Management of urban drainage in Can Tho city to respond to climate change."

Managers, scientists, and experts have provided the workshop with a wealth of feedback over the course of two discussion sessions regarding opportunities and strategies for developing Can Tho city sustainably and adapting to climate change. The subject of developing a comprehensive information system for smart city development, solid waste management, and economic development on the basis of weekly economic application was brought up during the first discussion session. complete. The delegates provided numerous proposals for the planning and execution of synchronous urban planning on the basis of science and technology during the second discussion session. Along with the state creating, constructing procedures and regulations for the sustainable and adaptive growth of Can Tho city, the development plan that places the people as the root, the business as the center, and the state as the facilitator. Another concern is to think about and more clearly understand the reasons for and solutions to the recent urban flooding.
