On April 3 and 4, 2023, the DRAGON-Mekong Institute of Can Tho University hosted Assoc. Dr. Yushiou Tsai, a specialist from Tulane University, Los Angeles, USA, who came to work with the DRAGON-Mekong institute and several other departments in Can Tho city. The meeting also featured participation from Associate Professor Dr. Van Pham Dang Tri from the Dragon-Mekong Institute, and Associate Professor Drs. Pham Van Toan and Phan Kieu Diem from the College of Environment and Natural Resources, Dr. Chau Thanh Tuan from the Institute of Food and Biotechnology, and Drs. Nguyen Tan Dat and Tran Chi Cuong from the Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy and S.I.S. Can Tho International General Hospital.
The purpose of this visit is to learn about issues related to the impacts of climate change and the environment on community health in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. On this occasion, the experts introduced the research conducted at their units and shared the general research orientation in the Mekong Delta.
After two days, the participants addressed challenges and future study opportunities regarding climate change and public health in the area. Human health, including bodily and emotional health, is closely correlated with weather and environmental factors. All involved parties have reached some consensus, and they all anticipated that these studies would be carried out successfully in the near future to help the Mekong Delta region and provide scientific data.
