Experiential learning and sightseeing trip for students of Thoi Lai High School
On May 26, 2024, the Research Institute for Climate Change (DRAGON-Mekong) at Can Tho University, in collaboration with Thoi Lai High School, organized an immersive career advice trip to Chau Thanh district in Kien Giang province for Grades 10 and 11 students. The principal of Thoi Lai High School, Mr. Dong Van Khuyen, along with over fifty students, teachers, and relevant units, participated in this enriching activity aimed at exposing students to the local way of life, culture, and traditions.
As part of the program, the students visited Tu Viet Crop Farm, where they met Mr. Le Quoc Viet, affectionately known as Uncle Tu Viet or Tu Lua Mua. During the visit, Uncle Tu Viet shared stories about traditional rice farming and his ambitions to revive indigenous rice varieties and cultural practices. Students were also able to witness traditional fieldwork involving buffaloes and experienced milling rice using an ancient manual mill. Following this, the students engaged in a hands-on activity, crafting straw brooms, which fostered their creativity and enthusiasm for learning.

This model is deeply integrated with the local culture and economy of the island, situated between the Cai Be and Cai Lon rivers in Chau Thanh district, Kien Giang province. Besides the sightseeing activities, students can also try the famous Tac Cau pineapples directly from the gardens.
